There was plenty to celebrate at Manor Cottage recently as residents, staff and members of the local community gathered to officially open our brand-new Little Library.
The project has been a real team effort from the very beginning. Residents played an important role in preparing for the launch, helping to build the Little Library and carefully sorting through books ready for its very first visitors. From favourite novels to colourful children's stories, every shelf has been filled with books chosen to be enjoyed by readers of all ages.
We were delighted to welcome Councillor Liz Brennan to help mark the occasion alongside Julia, one of our residents, who is a keen reader, former marathon runner and enthusiastic walker. Joining them were Rayna, our Registered Manager, and Josie, our Managing Director, to celebrate a project that we hope will become a valued part of the Frenchay community for many years to come.
The Little Library has been created as a free community book swap, making it easy for anyone passing by to stop, browse and discover their next read. Whether you're dropping off a book you've loved, picking up a new story to enjoy or introducing a child to the magic of reading, everyone is welcome.
Community projects like this are an important part of life at Manor Cottage. They create opportunities for people of all ages to connect, spark conversations and share simple moments that bring neighbours together. Reading has a wonderful way of opening doors to memories, imagination and new friendships, and we hope our Little Library becomes a place where those stories continue to grow.
As part of the National Year of Reading 2026, we're proud to be helping encourage a love of books within our local community, while creating another way for Manor Cottage to stay connected with the people around us.
