At Manor Cottage, we’re incredibly proud of our residents and their achievements, and this September, one of our very own, Julia, is taking on a challenge close to her heart. On September 6th, she will lace up her walking shoes and join hundreds of others at the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk in Bristol, not just to raise funds, but to honour memories, celebrate resilience, and share her journey of hope.
Julia is no stranger to a challenge. She’s run the New York Marathon, crossed the London Marathon finish line four times, and even skydived for charity. Giving back has always been a part of her life, but this time, the cause is closer to home.
In 2022, Julia was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Since then, she has faced the condition with remarkable courage and positivity, supported by family, friends, and the Manor Cottage care team.
“Living with Alzheimer’s has given me even more reason to keep moving, keep pushing, and keep giving back,” Julia says. “Every step I take is a tribute to the memories we hold onto and the ones we fight to keep.”
Her journey of giving extends beyond this Memory Walk. Julia has dedicated time to her local community through initiatives like the soup run, offering clothes, food, and hope to those in need.
This year, she’s walking not only for herself but for every family, friend, and loved one touched by dementia. Her message is simple but powerful: we are not defined by our diagnosis — we are defined by the way we show up for others.
Julia hopes her walk will inspire others to support the Alzheimer’s Society’s vital work. If you’d like to support her journey and donate to the cause, you can visit her JustGiving page here
