Our sincere gratitude goes out to all of the Kew Care Group women. Their dedication makes our care homes a pleasant place to live and work. Among our staff, mostly women, IWD has great meaning for us.
Every year, on 8 March, we celebrate International Women's Day. The world celebrates women's and girls' achievements and calls for greater action to close the gender gap. The 2023 campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity. It stresses the critical importance of understanding the difference between equity and equality.
For International Women's Day and beyond, let's all fully #EmbraceEquity. A focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society's DNA. And it's critical to understand the difference between equity and equality. Equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have.
The difference between Equity and Equality
Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities.
Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.
When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion. Through the process of equity, we can reach equality. Every IWD activity is valid, which is what makes it so inclusive. Collectively, we can all contribute to positive change.
Encourage your friends, family, colleagues, and community to embrace equity. Together we can work collectively to impact positive change and all help forge an equal world.
Let's all embrace equity.
