Meet the Manager

of Cleeve Lodge Residential Home

We spoke with Risa, the manager of Cleeve Lodge, to learn about her journey into social care and what she enjoys about her role.

What does the role of a Registered Manager entail?

Day-to-day running of the home, leading and managing staff so they can perform their roles safely efficiently and to the best of their ability. Joint legal responsibility with the provider to ensure compliance and regulations are met.

How and why did you start working in the care industry?

My mum first introduced me to the care sector when I was 18 and I've never looked back. I've experienced different roles whilst working in social care, working in hospitals, home care in the community, and with district nurses and whilst I met some amazing people and gained knowledge and experience nothing compares to working in a family unit at Cleeve.

What do residents at Cleeve Lodge find hardest about the transition to care?

The hardest part is leaving their homes and families, it is such a big and scary transition for them and we need to be there every step of the way showing them care and compassion, encouraging and supporting them to maintain their independence and goals, we pride ourselves on being home from home we have a great family feel and that's what we are.

And as much as it is a massive transition for them,  we also understand it is for their loved ones so being there for them and supporting them through it.

What is your favourite part of your role?

Ensuring that I have a home full of happy people residents, staff, and family.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I spend it with my family. My household is very busy and noisy with my children and two dogs but I wouldn't change it for anything.
