World Alzheimer's Month is September

World Alzheimer's Month is an opportunity for the world to raise awareness around, educate, encourage support of and demystify dementia. World Alzheimer’s Day takes place on 21 September as part of World Alzheimer's Month.

The theme for 2022 is Know Dementia, Know Alzheimer's. This is the same theme as last year but this year it has a special focus on post-diagnosis support.

Why is World Alzheimer's Month so important?

Globally, dementia is one of the biggest challenges we face, with nearly 50 million people living with dementia worldwide. To tackle this international dementia challenge, we need to work together and share best practices with one another.

There's a lot to think about after receiving a diagnosis of dementia. But you are not alone Alzheimer's Society can help you adjust to a diagnosis and access support. Supporting people living with dementia requires a high level of competence which includes competence in emotional and empathetic skills, and respecting people as unique individuals, just one of Kew Care Group's stand-out qualities for all residents. And having the confidence to challenge negative attitudes associated with dementia. Our staff team at Westbourne Care Home are highly trained to support and assist Resident living with dementia.

A report in 2022, by Alzheimer's Society  Left to Cope Alone: The unmet support needs after a dementia diagnosis, shows that people need comprehensive support that encompasses medical, emotional and social wellbeing. Yet these needs are not being met in a consistent and timely way.

Alzheimer's Society has committed to working with partners on global research and campaigning, as well as sharing their learning, best practices and experience with others. Read more about who they are and their strategy.
